Funeral Services for Irene Sibert, age 94, of Crawford will be Wednesday, August 27, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Crawford United Methodist Church with Pastor Marsha Stauss officiating. Burial will be at the Crawford City Cemetery in Crawford. A memorial has been established for the Crawford Methodist Church. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
Irene Sibert, youngest child of Charles and Catherine (Christensen) Newman was born January 21, 1914 on the family farm south east of Harrison, NE. She passed away August 22, 2008 in Crawford, NE.
She attended rural school and after graduation from Sioux County High School. She taught school for two years in rural schools in Sioux County. She attended Wesleyan University but later transferred to Lincoln College of Commerce, graduating with honors.
She worked at a local refinery and later in the oil fields at Lance Creek, Wyoming. On May 4, 1937 she married Willard E. Sibert. They lived in Arkansas for eight years, returning to Crawford in 1946 and made a home there since then.
She worked for 5 years as a bookkeeper for the Crawford Laundry & Cleaners. For the next 31 years after that she was employed by the Jack and Jill Grocery in Crawford, retiring in 1981.
After retiring from the store she did custom quilting and was active in church and community affairs, being especially interested in music.

Nieces- Camille Brown, Rhonda Kloempken, Gloria Stafford, Naomi Galey, Olive Raben and their families.
