Irma Lea Hooker was born March 20, 1929, at home in Chadron Nebraska. She was the fifth child of her parents Harry and Margaret "Maggie" Hooker. Irma grew up in Chadron, with her sisters Frances and Jean and her brother, Joe. Irma graduated from Assumption Academy in 1947, having achieved Sodality all 4 years, managing the fall Senior Play "A Case of Springtime", being elected May Queen, and several other notable awards.
After graduation, Irma continued to be a supporter of Academy sports, as well as Chadron's Little League. She was also a faithful supporter of several religious organizations such as the Franciscans and Columbans.
Irma was adored by many nieces and nephews; favorite past times included playing cards and beating these same relatives at board games, following Nebraska Cornhusker football games, and socializing with a circle of close friends. She was well known for her collection of knickknacks, which included Hummells, blown glass, and religious figures/saints, and had a story for nearly every one. Perhaps Irma's greatest delight was keeping in touch with her extended family, with which she exchanged frequent phone calls, letters, and pictures. She had a clever sense of humor and often cut out comics from the funny pages to share with friends and relatives. Her smile came easily and she had a very genuine laugh.
