Funeral Services for William L. (Bill) McCarter, age 73, of Hay Springs, will be Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the St. Columkille Catholic Church in Hay Springs with Father Tim Stoner officiating.

Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hay Springs.

There will be a wake service on Monday, November 3rd at 7:00 PM at the St. Columkille Catholic Church in Hay Springs.

A memorial has been established for the St. Columkille or the Ambulance Fund of Hay Springs. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Drabbels, P.O. Box 443, Hay Springs, NE. 69347.

William (Bill) Lewis McCarter was born March 7, 1935 to William Alvin McCarter and Audrey Rose (Larson) McCarter in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He passed away on October 28th, 2008 in Hay Springs, Nebraska.

Bill was the youngest of three children. He spent his early years on a ranch near Oglala, South Dakota. When he was 13 years old, his family moved to Chadron, Nebraska where he completed high school. He excelled in sports, especially football and basketball. Many remember him by the nickname, “Wild Bill”. In 1955, he met Patricia Leona Peters of Hay Springs, Nebraska. Their romance culminated in marriage with six loving children to follow. They made their home in Hay Springs and purchased the family business from Patricia’s father and uncle. Over the years the family and business evolved, with their children actively participating in the expansion of both.

Bill had a joke, a smile, and a helping hand it seemed for nearly everyone he met. Father to his own six children and “father figure” to a multitude of others including Tracy Case and Larry Russell. He was a Grandpa to even more. He has been described as a fine human being: strong, fearless, understanding, generous (often to a fault) and totally selfless.

Wife- Patricia McCarter, of 52 years, of Hay Springs, NE.

Children- Teresa and husband Russ Fuhr of Cheyenne, WY; William McCarter of Pearce, AZ; Jack McCarter of Chadron, NE; Robert McCarter of Hay Springs, NE; Susan and husband Mark Stroope of Waxahachie, TX; James McCarter of Spokane, WA.
