Robert passed away after a short illness on October 30, 2008 with his family by his side. Bob was cherished by his wife of 52 years, Jerry (Hirchert); adored by his three daughters, Kristine Woodworth (Robert), Kathleen O'Hanian (Ken), Karen Foote (Ray); treasured by his grandchildren, Ross and Robby Woodworth, Kamila and Kellie O'Hanian, William, Andre, and Alex Kandaras and Durant Foote; and admired and respected by friends near and far.

He was born August 21, 1933 in Waterloo, Iowa to Ross and Ruby Armstrong, and older brother Ross Jr., all now deceased. He spent his childhood in Chadron, Nebraska, graduating from Chadron Prep High School and Chadron State College. An outstanding football, basketball, baseball and track athlete, Bob received all-state honors in basketball while at Chadron Prep and continued his basketball career in college. In 2001 he was inducted into the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame.

He continued his education, earning a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Indiana in 1959 and a Doctorate of Education from Northern Colorado University in 1965. A dedicated educator throughout his life, Bob began his career as a teacher, coach, referee and principal in Corcoran, California and Carson City, Nevada.

In 1965 he moved to Tucson as a Professor of Education at the University of Arizona and was director of the EPIC Evaluation Center until 1970 when he entered private consulting. In 1993 his company, Assurance Inc., was sold to National Computer Systems and he worked with NCS until 1999, after which he continued part-time consulting with Management Evaluation Associates.

Bob was instrumental in developing Armstrong Academy, a private school he co-owned with his wife, and for which he served as curriculum director and head landscape designer. His passion for sports and fitness continued throughout his life, and included golf (three holes-in-one), tennis, walking, biking and attending Arizona Wildcat football and basketball games.
