02/09/2009 - Harry Raymond Ritterbush
Funeral Services for Harry Raymond Ritterbush, 91, of Chadron will be Monday, February 9, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Chadron with Pastor Donella Silveira officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron. A memorial has been established for the Crestview Care Center Resident Council. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337. Harry, one of three children, was born on June 26, 1917 in Mills, Nebraska to Herman and Cora (Runyan) Ritterbush.
Harry graduated from high school in Dunning, Nebraska in 1935. He married Alma Ann Raymer on March 4, 1939.
Harry was inducted into the US Army, March 14, 1944. He was trained as an automotive mechanic and then transferred to the European Theater. He was assigned as an infantryman to the 83rd Infantry Division (Thunderbolts). He fought in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged from the Army in February 4, 1946 and returned to Chadron. On February 4, 2004 he was awarded the Bronze Star for his World War II service.
In 1951, Harry and Alma purchased a used dump truck and began a growing business which became known as Ritterbush Construction. They owned and operated the business until 1982 when they sold the business and retired.
In retirement, Harry enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, traveling, Nebraska football and especially playing cards. Harry lived at the Crestview Care Center for the last two years where he met and touched the lives of many people. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion, VFW, NRA, and a lifetime member of the Elks.

Son- Gary and wife Barbara Ritterbush of Mitchell, NE.
Daughters- Shirley and husband Edward Chase of Casper, WY; Lois Metcalfe and Stephen Douma of Scottsbluff, NE; Lori and husband Paris Fisher of Chadron, NE. Grandchildren- 9 Great Grandchildren- 19 Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
