Funeral Services for Neva Darlene (Peterson) Forbes, age 75, of Hay Springs will be Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs with Pastor Rod Heilbrun officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 7:00 PM at the Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary in Hay Springs.
Burial will be at the Hay Springs Cemetery.
A memorial has been established. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Drabbels Mortuary, P.O. Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.
Neva was born April 7, 1933 near Burge, Nebraska to Delmer Peterson and Rachael Lux Peterson. She grew up on the Niobrara River and as a yo9ung girl she helped her father hunt, fish, and run trap lines. She had two sisters and two brothers.
She attended High School in Rock County and graduated in 1950. She also attended Chadron State College and graduated with her teaching certificate. On December 21, 1952 she married Raymond Forbes in Bassett, Nebraska. Neva taught in one room country schools until her growing family needed her at home. Ray and Neva lived in Rose, Nebraska, Ohio, Ewing, Whitman, and Cherry counties until moving to Hay Springs in 1972.
Neva worked at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home kitchen in Hay Springs for several years. She also worked in Dan’s Supperette for many years. She also held various other jobs throughout her life.
Neva was a caring daughter, loving wife, and supportive mother.
She was also a good friend to many. She fed anyone who showed up at her table with good food and nice conversation. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and cooking. Neva was also very creative.
She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting along with many other crafts. Neva made several quilts for many members of her family. She enjoyed having her family and friends to visit with.
Neva was active in her church, U.M.W., garden club, bible study, and volunteered at the Pioneer Manor. She enjoyed the quiet and the peacefulness of country living.
Neva will be greatly missed by her family and friends, church and the community of Hay Springs.

Daughter- Lola and husband Bob Merrigan of Curtis, NE.
Sisters- Delmira Oatman of Elk Horn, NE; Lavonne and husband Charles Linke of Lincoln, NE.
Brothers- Walter (Bud) and wife Lorraine Peterson of Gainesville, GA; Jerry and wife Judy Peterson of Ponce, NE.
Sister-In-Laws- Mildred Weltin, Agnes Frahm, Lenore Meyers, Sylvia Buoy-Dixon, Fern Briggs.
Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren- Kirk and Carrie Forbes of Crawford, NE and their children Kain and Chaney; Alisha and Chip Munson and daughter Mercedes of Gothenburg, NE; Katie Merigan of Lincoln, NE; Shaun Merigan of Hastings, NE; Cory Merigan of Curtis, NE.
Chamberlain-Drabbels Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
