03/06/2009 - Don Toof

Funeral Services for Don Toof, age 72, of Cisco, TX will be Friday, March 6 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Hay Springs Methodist Church with Reverend Rod Heilburn officiating.

Burial will be at the Rushville Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to Security First Bank.

Born the second of twins on July 27, 1936 at Hay Springs, NE to Vernon and Thyra Toof. He left home to serve four years in the Air Force after graduating high school in 1956. There he became a certified jet mechanic. He met his soon-to-be wife, Sarah Evelyn Taylor while stationed in Abilene, TX. They wed there on March 20, 1959.

After his discharge in 1960, Donnie returned home, new wife in hand, to go to work with his father in the trucking company (Toof Transfer). There were for children born to Don & Evelyn, who would have celebrated 50 years together in March of this year. Three daughters, Donna Kay “Sis”, Julie Ann “Peewee” and Kathy Jean “Peanuts” and one son, Donald Wayne “Oscar”. Aside from his years in the military, Don spent his entire life (from the age of 16) behind the wheel of a semi, criss-crossing the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He also taught countless youngsters including his 3 oldest children and two son-in-laws how to drive and getting them into “the business”. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Wife- Evelyn Toof of Cisco, TX.
 
Son- Don “Oscar” Toof and wife Angela of Chadron, NE.
 
Daughters- Donna Kay Toof and husband Tom of Cisco, TX; Julie and husband Wayne Gibbons of Crawford, NE; Kathy and husband Rene’ Serna of Abilene, TX.
 
Brother- Chuck Toof.
 
Sisters- Suzanne Graham, Avis Summerville, Sandra Johnson.

Grandchildren- 10
Great Grandchildren- 4
 
Nieces & Nephews & Friends- Numerous
 
He is preceded in death by his father, Vernon; mother, Thyra; sister, Dorothy Johnson; sister, Elizabeth Carter, twin brother Ron Toof (whose death was 2 weeks prior).
