Funeral services for Ed Anton Serbousek, age 79, of Hay Springs will be on Monday, March 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Pastor Al Trucano officiating.
Burial will be at the Hay Springs Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Hay Springs Fire Department or Post 239 American Legion Honor Guard. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Drabbels Mortuary, P.O. Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347. Ed Anton Serbousek was born on November 14, 1929 to Anton William and Albina (Vacek) Serbousek at the old homestead house north of where the place stands now in rural Sheridan County. It was a blustery, snowy day that delayed the doctor from getting out to the homestead place for a few days. Ed was the youngest of three children. He was welcomed into the world by his parents and two sisters- Mildred and Jeanette.
Ed grew up in this area, living his life where he was born. He went into the US Marine Corp in 1951 and graduated as an Amphibian Tractor Mechanic. After being discharged from the Marines, he returned home to Hay Springs where he married Marlene J. Russell on July 2, 1955.
His mother and father moved to Alliance the year after his father became ill and then passed away in November of 1955. Ed and Marlene lived in the old house until the 1st of March, 1956 when they moved into the new house closer to the road. They had their first child, Nicolette a few days later. Also born to this union are Roseann and Russell Joe. They went on to adopt three other children, Troy, Natalie and Tony.
Ed enjoyed fishing and hunting and going to all sorts of the grandchildren and great grandchildren’s events. His faithful dog followed him all over and rode on the 4-wheeler wherever he went.
