03/17/2009 - Bertha Elizabeth Leeling

Graveside Services for Bertha Elizabeth Leeling, age 95, of Crawford will be on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Crawford Cemetery with Pastor Marsha Strauss officiating.

Bertha Elizabeth (Nortness) Leeling was born on January 1, 1914 on her dad's homestead in a log house about 18 miles northeast of Harrison in Sioux County.

She attended grade shool in a one room school house. In 1954, she received her high school diploma from "American Home School" from Chicago, by correspondence courses.

On March 16, 1933 she was united in marriage to George Leeling in Hot Springs, SD. They lived one summer on her fathers place then moved to the Joe Roos place for the winter, then moved to the Leeling Ranch, where they made their home for 48 years. George passed away in June 1981, then in 1986 the Ranch was sold and Bertha moved to Mitchell, NE.

A memorial has been established for the Crawford Ambulance Department or Good Samaritan Village of Alliance.  Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337

Son- George and wife Donita Leeling of Crawford, NE.

Daughter- Viola and husband Bob Webster of Crawford, NE.

Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
