Funeral Services for Esther Anna Meyer Coomes, age 88, of Rapid City, SD will be Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rapid City, SD with the Reverend Raymond Adams officiating.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 16th from 5-7:00 PM at the Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, SD and then at the church for one hour before services.
Burial will be on Wednesday, March 18th at 2:00 PM at the Fairview Cemetery in Rushville, NE.
A memorial has been established Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337. She was born to Elmer Meyer and Emma Geisert north of Watertown, SD on her parent’s farm in Roberts County on July 25, 1920. Esther met her future husband as pen pals through the Dakota Farmer Magazine. She was united in marriage to Kelley Albert Coomes on June 18, 1941. They lived in Manderson, SD on a ranch and had their first son, Albert. They lived there for four years & then moved to Whiteclay, NE in 1945. Sons: Colin, Ronald, Calvin; and daughter Beverly were born. She moved to Rapid City the fall of 1973 and worked at various motels in Rapid City.
She was a member of Tops SD# 87 for several years and a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She loved to make Barbie & Cabbage Doll clothes. She was really into her genealogy, documenting all the births, weddings, and deaths of all her family down to the great great grandchildren. She loved to read, and liked all kinds of crafts, including oil painting. She really loved her family & was a great mother. Friends may sign Esther’s online guestbook at www.kirkfuneralhome.com.

Sister-In-Law- Mayme Coomes of Madison, SD. Grandchildren- 14 Great Grandchildren- 27 Great Great Grandchildren- 4 Nieces, Nephews & Friends- Many Kirk Funeral Home in Rapid City, SD is in charge of arrangements.
