James F. Wellnitz loved life. He lived it to the fullest, from November 26, 1932 until March 27, 2009. He finally relinquished his hold on life at the age of 76.
Jim was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1949. He was a student at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. While in Fort Collins, he met Mary Ann Flessner. The two married June 7, 1953 and celebrated 55 years together.
Jim served in the army for two years, with a 15 month tour of duty in Korea. He was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant April 22, 1957.
Jim loved nature and God’s creatures. He spent much of his time outdoors and appreciated his Maker’s handiwork. Jim made pets of ground squirrels, raccoons, deer, a donkey, skunks, cats and dogs. Jim was a rancher and took great joy in raising elk for thirty years.
Neighbors and friends remember Jim for having a joke or a story for every occasion. He loved fishing. He loved nature. He loved his country, his friends, and his family. We loved him.
