Funeral Services for Harold L. Ofe, age 89, of Hay Springs, formerly of Chadron will be Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the Chadron Berean Church with Pastor Dan Williams officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons Andy Wacker, Jeff Buskirk, Tony Wacker, Colton Hurley, Jeremy Buskirk and great-grandson Andrew Wacker.
 
A memorial has been established for the Hay Springs Fire and Rescue Unit. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Harold Lester Ofe 89, of rural Chadron passed away in his Hay Springs home April 7, 2009 surrounded by his wife and daughters. He was born May 11, 1919 in Oakdale, Nebraska moving to a farm south of Chadron with his parents in 1927. On June 26, 1949 he married Aubyn Petersen and purchased their farm southeast of Chadron in 1951. He farmed/ranched until November 2008 at which time he sold his cows and retired. 
 
Harold served in the Third Division during WWII under General Patton from November 1941 to November 1944 receiving the Purple Heart and numerous medals for outstanding
service.
 
Harold’s favorite pride and joy was his Belgium horse team(s) that he took to parades in Chadron and Crawford. They were also used on the farm for raking hay, picking up bales, in the timber and winter feeding.
 
He was an avid reader, a watch-dog political informationalist, and a member of several political organizations. He loved to be visited by his daughters, grand and great-grand children.

Daughters- Kay and David Telford of Omaha, NE; Lea Ann and Leroy Buskirk of Alliance, NE; Nina Sue and Mark Hurley of Cheyenne, WY.
 
Sisters- Nina Patterson of Maderas, OR; Janelle Grant of Chadron, NE; Frances Connell of Crawford, NE; Verna Tuma of Chadron, NE.
 
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
