Prominent rancher Robert (Bob) Hinn passed away May 4, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.  Bob was 56 years old at the time of his death.

Bob was born July 9, 1952 to Sam and Jeanette (Smith) Hinn in Rushville, NE.  He grew up on the family ranch south of Rushville.  Bob graduated from Alliance High School and entered the United States Navy.  He was honorably discharged in February 1971.  Bob married Theresa (Tess) Grooms on May 11, 1972.  To this union were born daughter Emilee Sue and sons Robert (Casey) and Blake Edward.

Bob inherited a portion of the Smith homestead and later purchased his brother Jim’s interest.  Having great pride in his Smith heritage, he worked hard to develop one of the most prominent cattle ranches in the panhandle of Nebraska.

Bob understood the entire scope of the cattle industry.  His genetic integrity produced some of the most outstanding angus cattle available.   One of his proudest accomplishments was having raised a steer, Bobbie II, who won the Louisville Classic.

Bob also owned a landscaping and tree moving business.  He moved hundreds of trees in Wyoming and western Nebraska.  Bob was very accomplished at everything he did, whether it be raising black angus cattle, golfing, bowling, fishing, landscaping or photography.

Bob was a devoted family man who loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.  They have many fond memories of family times boating, fishing, and vacationing.

Bob became a proud grandfather in 2003.   He was diagnosed with cancer in 2004.   At that time Bob re-evaluated his priorities and took up golfing, which he loved. He made many new friends through golfing competitions, such as the senior tour.  He also loved to fish and bowl and was said to be “just a skosh competitive” in sports as he was in life.

Bob served on the rural school board, board of directors for Farm Credit, Modisett golf board and Post 161 American Legion board.  Bob was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
