Graveside Services for George J. Winters Jr., age 85, of Scottsbluff will be Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Fairview Cemetery in Rushville with Pastor Stephen Demoret officiating.
Burial with Military Honors will be provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard.
A memorial has been established for the Disabled American Veterans Post No. 33, 602 Avenue A, Bayard, NE 69334.
George J. Winters Jr., 85, of Scottsbluff, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at the Western Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Scottsbluff.
George was born October 11, 1923, at Rushville, Nebraska to George J. Sr. and Frances (Veskeana) Winters. He served in the United States Army with the 50th Engineer’s Battalion during World War II from March 30, 1943 to March 19, 1946. His tours included the Aleutian Islands and the United States. He received the Sharpshooter M-1 Rifle, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
George worked as a farmhand, painter, photographer and roofing contractor, living in Alliance, Gordon and Rushville. His hobbies included photography, yard sales and auctions.
