06/30/2009 - Ruby Anderson

             Ruby Evelyn (Gustafson) Anderson of Crawford, NE passed away on June 26, 2009 at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford.  She was born on a farm near Oelrichs, SD at 7 pm on October 10, 1924 to Ivan Arthur “Archie” Gustafson and Adelia Mary Viola (Bauwens) Gustafson. Ruby was raised in Chadron and graduated from Chadron High School. She married William O. Anderson on August 25, 1942 and to this union 4 children were born, 2 boys and 2 girls.

Ruby stood by her husband’s side while he pursued varied careers first as a farmhand, truck driver, military soldier, police officer on the Chadron Police Force, and Game Warden for Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Bill and Ruby moved multiple times living in Rushville, Bassett, Lincoln, Fort Robinson, the Bowring Ranch north of Merriman, and finally settled in Crawford in January 1976. Together Ruby and Bill enjoyed many experiences that took them across Nebraska and the western states, making many friends and precious memories. Ruby enjoyed taking care of her family, her home, and traveling. In her words she, “seen it all, done it all, and had it all.”

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, William O. (Andy) Anderson; son, James Leroy Anderson; granddaughter Kimberly Goodman; parents, 2 sisters, and 1 brother.

She is survived by her son, Jack Anderson and wife Marilyn of Ainsworth, NE; daughters, Jean M. Cade and husband Jim of Elmore, OK and Shirley Schultz and husband Con of Greenwood, NE; 9 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.

            Funeral Service will take place at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Dr. Russ Seger officiating. Burial will take place at Crawford Cemetery.
