Funeral Services for Rae Janine Cook Fero, age 72, of Crawford will be Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 2:00 PM at First Congregational Church in Crawford with Pastor Bill Bagley officiating.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 30th at Chamberlain Chapel in Crawford. Burial will be at Crawford Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Crawford Rescue Unit. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
Rae Janine was born October 5, 1936 in Osceola, NE to James Edward Cook and Helen Mary Glaubitz Cook. She passed away June 27, 2009 at the Chadron Community Hospital at the age of 72.
Rae moved to the Crawford area in 1950 with her family. They lived north of town until 1953 when they moved to town. She attended school and graduated from Crawford High School in 1954.
Rae worked for the telephone company until she moved to Denver, Colorado. There she met John Peter Fero. They were married April 1, 1961 in Lakewood, Colorado. A daughter, Lori Helene, was born April 11, 1962. That same year they moved back to Crawford making their home south of town. A son, James Lee, was born June 20, 1966. In 1970, they moved to town. Rae worked for K-N Energy until she retired in 1994 after 20 years of service. She then worked at Security First Bank. She served on the Alumni Board for seven years. Rae was a member of the First Congregational Church serving on many different Boards and Committees and was very dedicated to her church. Over the years she was also a member of other clubs and organizations. Rae loved her family and her home. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, playing cards, and putting puzzles together.
Rae is preceded in death by her husband John, parents James Cook and Helen Cook Kassahn, stepdad Mark Kassahn, father and mother-in-law Frank Fero and Sarah Fero Walker, and step grandson Jason John Fero.
Immediate Survivors:
Daughter- Lori and grandsons Brian and Brad Piper of Crawford, NE.
Son- James and wife Rhonda and grandchildren Mischa and Matthew Fero of Grand Island, NE.
Stepson- John A. Fero of Atlanta, GA and five step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren. Stepfather-In-Law- Ralph Walker of Pocatello, ID. Brother & Sister-In-Law- James Edward and Judy Cook of Purdum, NE. Niece- Connie and husband Ron Crowley and their daughter Nicole of Fritch, TX. Nephew- Corey Cook and his son Eric of Borger, TX. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
