Lorraine died of congestive heart failure on Monday, July 13, 2009 at her home in Crawford. She was born on September, 22, 1918 in Clearwater, Nebraska to Verna Rutledge McCloud and Ray McCloud. Lorraine was raised on a ranch north of Rushville in the Beaver Hills area.
She attended rural schools in the Rushville area. Lorraine married Evert Green on November 10, 1934, in Chadron. Evert was the son of Jennie (Jane) Chamberlain and Delbert Green of Lakeside, Nebraska. Lorraine and Everet lived on various ranches in the Sandhills area before moving to their ranch at Glen, Nebraska where they resided for several years before moving to Crawford.
To this union was born Patricia, Raydene Cline, Geraldine Shannon, Steven Jean, Foster Eugene, Dee Ann, and Kelly Joe. Lorraine was a member of the United Methodist Church of Crawford and worked as a nurse’s aid and midwife at the Crawford Methodist Hospital. She helped deliver many of Crawford’s finest residents during her career with Dr. Bishop of Crawford and Drs. Penor and Hanlon of Chadron.
Lorraine was an avid fisherwoman depleting the White River and several area lakes of their best trophy fish. She also enjoyed bowling, but her first love of leisure was arrowhead and fossil hunting in the Badlands areas of Nebraska and around Barnwell, South Carolina on her visits to her eldest daughter, Denie. Lorraine also reveled in her successful visits to many casinos.
She was well-known for her famous and delicious 4th of July fried chicken luncheons. Lorraine took great interest in all of her children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s activities and loved watching them grow.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter Patsy; sisters Ines Clark, Dorothy Mae Jacobs, and Mary Lou McKenna; twin brother Loren McCloud; and brothers Lloyd “Jiggs” McCloud and Merle McCloud.
