07/17/2009 - Gladys Gean (Gustafson) Green
Memorial Services for Gladys Gean (Gustafson) Green, age 85, of Gordon will be Friday, July 17, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Gordon Methodist Church.
Glayds was born in Red Oak, Iowa on March 28, 1924 and passed on July 13, 2009. She was the daughter of Elmer and Junie (Lagerquist) Gustafson, their third child. She joined her two older brothers in their home.
Gladys graduated from Red Oak High School as Salutatorian of her class.
Gladys married Neal Green on September 15, 1946 in Red Oak, Iowa at the Mission Covenant Church. After being married, Glayds and Neal made their home on the family farm east of Gordon.
All three of her children attended East Pride country school through the 8th Grade and then attended Gordon High School. Gladys supported her three children in their school activities, sports, 4-H, church (where she taught Sunday School for several year) and youth groups.
Later Gladys worked at the Gordon Memorial Hospital for many years as Medical Record Director after completing a course in medical records through St. Mary’s College, after children were grown.
Other Gordon community organizations that Gladys were active in were: Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, American Legion and Auxiliary, 4-H leader, Rebekah Lodge, the East Pride School Board, Hospital Auxiliary and Hospital Board. In addition to other commuity and church activities Gladys enjoyed fishing and sporting events; she and Neal went as often as they could and enjoyed taking any family and friends along, whenever possible.
Most all Gladys was dedicated to her family and enjoyed maintaining strong family ties, even staying in touch with remote relatives via phone or email on an almost daily basis. Gladys was one of the most amazing 85 year old persons that this world has ever known, she was referred to as some as the Energizer Bunny, as she was always on the go and so full of energy. She expended a great deal of that energy doing charity and community work.
There is one less truly good person in the earthly world. Gladys will be greatly missed, here on earth, but we are sure she is completeing a higher cause, and her family and friends know they now have their own personal guardian angel looking down on them from Heaven.
