09/10/2009 - William Anton Rasmussen
Funeral Services for William Anton Rasmussen, age 79, of Rushville, will be Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rushville with Pastor Michael Wittrock officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 9th at 6:00 PM at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rushville.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Rushville.
A memorial has been established for the Rushville Fire and Rescue. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
William was born March 6, 1930 and God took him home on September 5, 2009. He was the first child born to Anton and Edna (Taggart) Rasmussen. William was baptized and confirmed at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1948. He taught Sunday School and served his Lord in many ways as long as he could.
William married Shirley Ann Morris on August 15, 1954 and they were blessed with two sons, Stuart William and Dwight Aaron. Together they labored to expand their farming and ranching operation. William took pride in his work--straight rows and no blank spots in his fields. Being out in the tractor was a joy for him. William possessed an intense drive to contribute to the betterment of farm, family, community, church, and schools.
William was a charter member of the Rushville Rural Fire District. He assisted in acquiring the first rural fire truck. William worked hard to see that the fire equipment and ambulance were available to protect the community. He was privileged to serve 15 years on the Rushville School Board; serving several years as president.
Immediate Survivors:
Wife- of 55 years, Shirley.
Sons- Stuart and wife Julianne; Dwight and Cathy.
Grandchildren- Aaron (Tara), Cynthia, Erika (Doyle) Rasmussen Gaswick, Kristin, Lauren, and Daniel Rasmussen.
Great Grandchildren- Jett and Jaelyn Rasmussen.
Sister- Eleonora Hindman Post Brother- 1 Nieces and Nephews- Many A very special niece- Elin Burgess
Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home of Gordon is in charge of arrangements.
