10/13/2009 - Ramona Irene Lawler

Funeral Services for Ramona Lawler Horner, age 95, of Crawford will be Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at 2:00 PM at United Methodist Church in Crawford with Reverend George Kilmer officiating.

Burial will be at Crawford Cemetery.
It was a wintry November day in 1913 when Ramona entered the world on her family’s ranch in Sioux County NE. She was the fifth of ten children born to Mabel and John Lawler.

Ramona attended a one room rural school through the eighth grade and graduated from Sioux County High School in Harrison, NE with the class of 1932. After graduation she took a job at the Agate Ranch and Museum. She did most of the cooking for the Cook family and their many guests.

In 1935 Ramona moved to Mitchell NE where she met and married Benjamin Thomas. To this union three children were born, Mabeline, Josephine and Charles. In 1949 they moved the family to Crawford NE. Ramona was an active member of the United Methodist Church with membership of over 50 years. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and a 50 year member of the Royal Neighbors of America, holding the office of Recorder for 20 years. Ramona also worked in retail sales for many years. She was a people person and always had a smile and greeting for everyone. Her husband, Ben, died in 1956 and five years later she married Clifford Horner. They were married for 25 years and enjoyed traveling, family and friends. Clifford died in 1986

Ramona enjoyed an active life well into her eighties. After a fall, which resulted in a broken hip, she became a resident at Ponderosa Villa. With her people skills and her great sense of humor she made that adjustment very well. She died peacefully on Saturday morning October 10th at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford, NE.
