Lela Ada (Glendy) McCoy was born on Mar 20, 1911 at the Glendy Homestead in Sioux County. She passed away peacefully at her home on January 23, 2010 surrounded by her children.
She married Marion Kendrick McCoy in Douglas, Wyoming on May 20, 1927. They came back and lived on the McCoy homestead before moving to the Glendy Ranch on Deadman Creek. To this union five children were born. After a time they moved to a place at Orpha, Wyoming on the Platte River. The thirties caused them to leave there and travel through the Western United States harvesting fruit and hops. They came back and settled in the Gering-Scottsbluff area, then back and lived in various places in the Marsland, Crawford and Belmont area until they were able to purchase their own ranch in Sioux County south of Glen. She was a true pioneer woman. She was born into a farming and ranching family and lived her entire life in this manner.
Lela was a member of the Rebekah Lodge. She & M.K. belonged to the Farmers Union and were active in entertaining at country dances. Lela played the accordion, Marion played the banjo, Gerald played the guitar and fiddle along with Lela’s sister, Laca Beverage. They provided many years of places for young folks to have entertainment. She passed on her music to her children and grandchildren.
Lela was a kind and caring person always taking care of anyone who was ill. She was a lifetime learner.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Marion Kendrick (M.K.). Her parents Thomas Jefferson Glendy, and Caroline (Getzinger) Glendy, sister, Louise (Laca) Beverage, Christina Dannar, Anna Marie Miller, Eva Dyer and brother, Tommy Glendy and a daughter Dorothy (McCoy) Beman.
