02/19/2010 - Jack Roberts

Memorial services for Jack Roberts, age 86, of Chadron will be Friday, February 19, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel with Pastor Seth Leypoldt officiating.
 
Burial will be at the Alliance Veteran’s Cemtery at a later date.
 
A memorial has been established for the Chadron Public Library or the Chadron Volunteer Fire Deparment and Rescue Unit. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Jack Leroy Roberts died Sunday, February 14th, 2010, at Ponderosa Villa in Crawford.
 
His was born Sept 13, 1923 in Crawford to William (Bill) F. Roberts and Emma Uhl Roberts. He grew up in Crawford and attended Crawford Schools. Jack was on the high school football team and was Vice President of his Senior Class. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific as an airplane mechanic.
 
Shortly after his Navy Term was up, he met Frankie Nation. They fell deeply in love and were married on July 17, 1946, at Jack’s parent’s home in Crawford.
 
On December 21, 1951 Jack and Frankie took the train to Omaha to pick up their daughter Theresa (Teri) Leigh, from Nebraska Children’s Home Society. That day was one of the happiest days of their life.
 
Jack, Frankie and Teri moved to Chadron from Scottsbluff on April 10, 1960 to take ownership of Dex’s Motel and shortly thereafter renamed it The Branding Iron Motel. It was a family business.
 
Jack took great care in keeping the motel in tip top shape. He kept a garden in the summer and winter months were spent repairing and maintaining the motel. Jack also enjoyed golfing. Family was important to Jack and as often as possible, he would go camping with his brother Jim and their families. Jack joined the American Legion in 1985. He maintained the building, tended bar and various other duties. He was with the Legion for over 20 years. Jack was outgoing and friendly and kind to all he knew.

Wife of 36 years- Frankie Roberts of Chadron, NE.
 
Daughter- Teri Roberts

Grandson- Chris Crowe.
Granddaughter- Jill Cortez
Great Grandsons-3
Great Granddaughter- 1
 
Sister- Lois Wilson of Orlando, FL.
 
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
