He was born March 11, 1922 on the family farm and ranch to Frank and Mildred (Duhon) Mracek. Jim grew up and lived all of his life east of the 16 mile corner in Box Butte County. He loved the farm life and continued to do so until he was no longer able to.
On June 10, 1943 he eloped to Valentine, Nebraska and married Marie Serbousek. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage.
Jim enjoyed riding motorcycles and flying airplanes. He received his pilot’s license in 1955 and served as president of the Flying Farmers from 1963 to 1964. He was an avid pilot and operated his own airplane as long as he was able to fly. He was a former member of the board of directors for Co-op in Hay Springs.
Jim and Mildred enjoyed traveling and visited every state in the United States with the exception of three as well as taking cruises. While they were home they enjoyed driving around their place checking on their crops and cattle. They also enjoyed attending open houses for anniversaries and birthdays. As he grew in years he enjoyed watching birds and a cat that he named Crooked Tail.
