03/27/2010 - Donald Joe Heiting

Memorial services for Donald Joe Heiting, age 81, of Hay Springs, NE will be Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Hay Springs High School Auditorium.

Following the ceremony there will be coffee and celebration of life at the Hay Springs Senior Center.
 
A memorial has been established for the Hay Springs Fire Department Building Fund, Zion Lutheran Church, Lister-Sage Community Building. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Drabbels Mortuary, P.O. Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.

Donald Joe Heiting went to be with his Lord on March 22, 2010, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Cremation has taken place.
 
Don was born on April 18, 1929, to Dick and Thora Jensen Heiting in Hay Springs, Nebraska. He had one brother, Joseph (Bubs) and a sister, Linda. He graduated from Hay Springs High School and was active in band and all sports, with his special love being basketball.
 
Don was united in marriage to Shirley Serbousek on September 30, 1949. To this union, five children were born, Pam, Deb, Wendy, Brett and Brad. Don and Shirley lived and raised their family on a farm south of Hay Springs.
 
Don loved farm life. He never knew a stranger, visiting and laughing with anyone he met. He was always up for a good game of cards and usually walked away the winner. He attended his kids and grandkids activities and sports. The last two years of his life he enjoyed a special bond with the Hay Springs boy’s basketball team as their #1 fan.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents and baby sister.

He will be missed by his loving family and many friends.    
 
Wife- of 60 years, Shirley.

Children- Pam and husband Don Kalmbach of Austin, TX; Deb and husband Lee Rubottom of Gering, NE; Wendy and husband Marty Jensen of Douglas, WY; Brett and wife Marlene Heiting of Hay Springs, NE; Brad and wife Susan Heiting of Hay Springs, NE.

Grandchildren- Kristi, Kerri, Troy, Scott, Clint, Todd, Eric, Tricia, Greg, Corey, Tony, Kelly, Lindsay, Katie, Whitney.

Great Grandchildren- 7

Brother- Bubs

Sister- Linda DeVeny.
