A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held at Prairie Pines Lodge in Chadron on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Brad Daniels officiating.

 

Burial will be at a later date in the Alliance Veteran’s Cemetery.

 

Memorials are suggested to the Chadron Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.  Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, Nebraska 69337.

Frankie Roberts of Chadron, Nebraska died Sunday, April 25, 2010 at Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.

 

Frankie was born to Earl and Iva Nation in Glen, Nebraska. She grew up on the family farm in Sioux County. Upon graduating from the eighth grade, she elected to stay and help her parents on the farm for three years. She was very close to her parents and loved them dearly. Frankie was determined to finish school, so she rented a room in a boarding house in Crawford and supported herself by working at the local soda fountain. She graduated from Crawford High School in 1945, at the age of 21.

    

As a child, young woman, and adult, she had exuberance for life. She put her while being into everything that she did. She was cheerful, kind and positive. Most of all she was always smiling.

 

Her husband Jack preceded her in death by two months and eleven days, and even after his death, she remained amazingly cheerful. Jack was the love of her life. On December 21, 1951, Jack and Frankie took the train to Omaha to pick up their daughter Theresa (Teri) Leigh, from Nebraska Children’s Home Society. That day was one of the happiest days of their life. Jack, Frankie, and Teri moved to Chadron from Scottsbluff in 1961 to take ownership of Dex’s Motel and shortly thereafter renamed it the Branding Iron Motel. It was a family business.

    

Frankie was a natural-born business woman. Early in her work career she was a secretary, and a telephone operator. She worked at a Girl Scout Summer Camp, she sold Avon off and on for fifty years and she sold Tupperware. She ran the motel with Jack for over twenty years. She was active in “BPW”, Business and Professional Women, was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, she volunteered at the Senior Center, she sold poppies, rang the Salvation Army Bell, worked at the Dollar Store in downtown Chadron, and at Brun’s Coin Laundry and Dry Cleaning.

Grandchildren- Chris of Medford, OR; Jill of Rafael, CA.

Great-Grandchildren- 4

Sisters- Mildred and Anita of Sedalia, MO.

Many cousins, nieces and nephews.
