05/18/2010 - James (Jim) Patrick O’Boyle

 Mass of Christian Burial for James “Jim” Patrick O’Boyle, age 80, of Des Moines, IA will be Wednesday, May 18, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Des Moines, IA. A private family burial will be at the Altoona, IA Cemetery.
 
A memorial has been established for the Des Moines High School Athletic Fund; St. Joseph Church or the Iowa Health Hospice.
 
James “Jim” Patrick O’Boyle died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at his home in Des Moines, Iowa. His six sons include Bill O’Boyle, the football coach at Chadron State College, and Tom O’Boyle, the head football coach and athletic director at Gering High School.
 
O’Boyle was born in Des Moines on Jan. 16, 1930, to Joseph and Catherine O’Boyle. He graduated from East High School in 1948. He was an all-state football player his senior year. After attending the University of Iowa one year, he served in the Navy several years. During that time, he played football in San Diego, Calif., and baseball in Norfolk, Va.
 
He was married on July 1, 1950 to Joan Paterson.
 
He was a steamfitter for Local Union 33 for 53 years. He later was an assistant building engineer for the Des Moines School District for five years. He coached little league football and baseball for 25 years.

Wife- Joan

Sons- Michael and wife Sharon of Greenville, IL; Dennis and wife Patricia of Chillicothe, IL Kevin and Timothy, both of Des Moines, IA; Thomas and wife Barbara of Gering, NE; William (Bill) and wife Susan of Chadron, NE.
