Funeral services for Janice (Larson) Johnson, age 67, of Urbana, IL, formerly of Rushville will be Monday, May 31, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the UnitedMethodistChurch in Rushville, NE with Reverend Alvin Trucano officiating.
Interment of ashes to follow at the FairviewCemetery. Former Rushville resident Janice (Larson) Johnson, of Urbana, IL died on May 20, 2010 at her daughter’s home in Bloomington, Illinois after a long illness.
She was born in Rushville, Nebraska to James M. and Julia A. Larson on September 1, 1942. Janice was a caring and generous daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and wife.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Laura Hucke, her brothers Don and Lon Larson and her sister Laura Gould. She is survived by her granddaughter Jamie Lee Farris whom she loved and raised as her own daughter. She is also survived by her husband Bernard Johnson, son Doug Hucke and wife Debbie of Peoria, IL, son Monte Hucke of Denver, CO, son David Hucke and wife Ruth of Urbana, IL, daughter Lisa and husband Albert Thomas of Bloomington, IL, brother Paul Larson of Northglenn, CO, brother Jim Larson of Rushville, NE, sister Judy Lewis and husband Wayne of Emmett, ID, sister Jeannie Matthews of Valentine, NE and previous sister-in-law Shirley Larson. Janice will also leave behind seven other grandchildren Alex, Tyler, Amanda, Ian, Rebecca, Brandy and Sarah.
From a young age Janice was an intelligent and talented person and viewed life as a great learning experience. Janice attended Chadron State College and later graduated at the top of her class when she obtained her Medical Assistant certification in Aurora, CO. Her love of vocabulary and reading lasted her entire life. More than anything she wished to be remembered for giving books to her family and friends.
Janice was a talented artist creating decorations and homemade gifts for every holiday including elaborately painted Easter eggs, Christmas ornaments and Valentine’s cards. Janice will be particularly remembered for creating many ingenious birthday cakes over the years including a full-sized guitar, a merry-go-round and a football.
Above all, Janice was a loving, generous and kind person. She took pride and satisfaction in the fact that she tried to do her very best as wife, mother and homemaker. She unselfishly devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to her family members including her mother until she passed away.
She found great happiness in simple things like a nicely wrapped gift, a home-cooked meal or finding an old or broken item at a thrift store and turning it into something useful. She continued her creativity in the last days of her life as she spent time with her seven grandchildren making crafts for school projects and holidays.
