Funeral Services for Ronald Ray Weedon, age 71, of Chadron will be Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church UCC in Chadron with Dr. Russ Seger officiating
Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the First Congregational Church of Chadron or the charity of choice. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Ronald Ray Weedon passed away suddenly at his home to the surprise of his daughter, family, colleagues, friends, and neighbors.
Ron was born at Caldwell, Idaho on May 16, 1939, the son of Ralph Weedon and Mary Marks Weedon. He was very energetic and upbeat. He was a devoted and caring father to his daughter, Jessica. Ron was dedicated to his profession and his college, and was a person of broad interests and knowledge. He had degrees from the College of Idaho and the University of Kansas. His Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of Kansas were in the field of botany. Ron was a very active and effective faculty member at Chadron State College since 1971.
Dr. Weedon was a great mentor to many students on an individual basis. He took great delight in helping people develop their self-confidence, their ability to succeed academically, and to conduct worthy scientific research. He and a colleague developed a very successful field studies program taking groups of students on extended trips to various places such as Big Bend National Park, Badlands National Park, the Black Hills of South Dakota, countless nearby locations in Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota, on floral studies to the southeastern U.S. and beyond U.S. borders to Canada, Baja California, and Costa Rica.
Dr. Weedon developed and endowed the Chadron State College Herbarium, which has grown to include a collection of over 60,000 specimens. It also includes a diverse collection of memorabilia reflecting his great respect for the Native American culture.
Ron had many other interests, activities, and passions which he pursued throughout his very productive career. Dr. Weedon was a man of very broad and deep knowledge in many areas outside of his field. He enjoyed wide respect, fondness, and appreciation among college faculty, staff, and students. Dr. Weedon leaves many memories and contributions to all, and especially, to Chadron State College.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John H. Weedon.

Daughter- Jessica K. Weedon of Rapid City, SD. Sister- Carol J. Hines. Step-Mother- Ann Henderson of Idaho. Half-Brother- Russ Weedon of Idaho. Half-Sister- Patty Brewer of Idaho. Many Nieces & Nephews. Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
