Funeral services for Bonnie (Fankhauser) Brice, age 81, of Hay Springs will be Friday, June 11, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs with Pastor Gene VanHuss officiating.
Burial will be at the Hay Springs Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Pioneer Manor Nursing Home. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain-Drabbles Mortuary, P.O. Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.

Bonnie (Fankhauser) Brice passed away at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs on June 7, 2010.
Bonnie Fankhauser was born on March 6, 1929 in the basement home of Fred and Lydia (Gottier) Fankhauser in Clinton, Nebraska. She was the ninth of ten siblings. She attended K thru 10th grade at Clinton, then eleventh and twelfth grades at Gordon, graduating from Gordon High School in 1947. She took “commercial courses in high school and stated working for Sheridan County Judge Benschoter as his secretary.
Bonnie with her family would go to Rushville every Saturday night where everyone would meet to visit, get groceries, sell their cream and eggs, and if old enough to go to the dances under the theater with music from Bud Paul. At one of these dances, Bonnie met her future husband, Gene Brice.
Bonnie and Gene were married March 31, 1948, at the Ferd Shald Ranch on Pole Creek southeast of Gordon. They first lived at the Cross 5 ranch north of Gordon then moved into Gordon where they lived during the 49 blizzard. Bonnie worked at the Ideal Market and bookkeeper at Kramols garage. REA lines were being built and Gene went to work for them. They moved to Hay Springs where they have lived ever since. They were blessed with four children, Sandra, Lyle, Donna, and Rick. Raising four children, Bonnie was also active in the Firemen’s Auxiliary Club 17, Den mother of the Boy Scouts, Girl Scout leader and was the “Avon Lady” for man years. She also worked at Pioneer Manor for about a year. Then in 73 the hot lunch program was started at the school and she was the head cook along with “Cookie” Horn. She will always be remembered by the kids for those delicious cinnamon rolls she and Cookie made for them. Bonnie retired from the school in 1991.
Bonnie and Gene in their retirement years for to take trips which Bonnie thoroughly loved doing. From seeing National Parks, the Metro East, Europe, Hawaii, and many more she got to see the country. She loved taking pictures and made many scrapbooks of each trip.
Bonnie was the last of the ten Fankhauser children. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ralph, Glen, Dean, and Ray, and sisters Wilma (Dowell), Anna (Peterson), Ina (Rector) and Pat (Eaton).
Bonnie’s family came first to her. She always kept everyone updated on what was happening within the family. Births, deaths, surgeries, etc., were all written down by her. She had everyone write down their life story several years ago, typed it up, and printed one for each to have. Quite a project with ten brothers and sisters and all their families. She loved collecting stamps, coins, and enjoyed crocheting, knitting (making sweaters for many members of her family). She was always taking pictures of any gathering the family had.

Husband- Gene Brice of Hay Springs, NE.
Sons- Lyle and wife Trudy Brice of Sheridan, WY; Rick and wife Donna Brice of Chadron, NE.
Daughters- Sandra and husband Dave Perkins of Hay Springs, NE; Donna and husband Bob Johnson of Hay Springs, NE.
Grandchildren- 11 Great Grandchildren- 17 and counting. Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
