Faye Irene Dreyer was born August 23, 1926 in Lakeside, Nebraska to John and Neil Kennedy Musfelt. She was one of thirteen children. Spending her childhood in a large family while living in the Sandhills of Nebraska made for some interesting stories that she shared in her later years.
She attended a one-room school located a few miles from the family ranch. During the war years, Faye went to Rushville High School and was boarded in town because of distance. She found various jobs to keep her busy while attending school. During this time, she met her future husband, Harold.
After she and Harold were married, they settled on his Uncle's farm near Rushville, NE, which remained their home for 43 years. During this time Harold and Faye raised their only child, Mel. She loved working in the large garden she raised each year and filled the basement with home-canned fruits and vegetables, as well as raising chickens, geese and turkeys. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for the 43 years they lived there. Faye was a kind and cheerful person, with a ready smile. She never complained and “bloomed wherever she was planted.”
In 1990, they moved to Rapid City because of Harold's failing health. After Harold's passing in 1995, she traveled both in and out of the country, truly enjoying the experiences. She worked at Fountain Springs Nursing Home while Harold was a resident there and volunteered at the Canyon Lake Senior Citizens’ Center and Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was a member of South Canyon Lutheran Church and the Piecemakers Quilting Group.
Faye's health declined in her later years but she always enjoyed her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Melvin, Raymond, Eldon and Floyd; half brothers, Milo and Edward; and husband, Harold.
