Shirley Jean Wineteer, a life-long resident of Chadron, passed away August 12, 2010 at the age of 84. She was born June 9, 1926 to May (Anderson) and Harold Naylor. She had two sisters, Deanne (deceased) and Shannon and two brothers, Howard “Bud” (deceased) and Gary.

Shirley married her best friend, Royal Wineteer, in 1943. Royal passed away in 2006. She was the proud mother of four children: Ronald, Larry, Richard, and Karen. Her interests were varied and lively. She loved playing bridge and enjoyed being a member of the Chadron Culture Club, Birthday Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Chadron Prep Alumni. One of her proudest achievements was being inducted in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, of which she was a longtime member since May, 1945. Over the years she was aw Sunday school teacher, a Den Mother, and a Campfire Girls Leader. She was also a talented seamstress and made many beautiful crocheted items. She was also an active participant in Chadron RSVP. In her later years, she enjoyed being a tour guide at the Dawes County Society Museum.

Shirley was a gifted storyteller, and she loved a good joke. There are no photographs of her without her trademark smile. In typical Shirley fashion, her favorite saying was: “For those who love us love them. For those who hate us, ask the Lord to turn their hearts. If her cannot turn their hearts, ask Him to turn their ankle so we will know them by their limp.” This is the Shirley we will miss the most.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Deanne and brother Bud.

Immediate Survivors:

Sons- Ron and wife Linda of Chadron, NE; Larry; Rick and wife Cindy.
