Valerie Jean (Groves) Karr passed away on September 13, 2010 at ChadronCommunityHospital, surrounded and loved by family and friends. She was born in Chadron on September 20, 1951, the second of three children born to Dick and Carol Groves. She graduated from ChadronAssumptionSchool in 1969.
She then went on to nursing school and became an LPN in Alliance, Nebraska in 1974. She worked at ChadronCommunityHospital, and was a candy striper before becoming an LPN. She later worked at Crestview Nursing Home.
She moved to Scottsbluff, went back to school and became an RN in 1983, after which she began working in the intensive care nursery. She gave great care and love to all the babies, but the “preemies” held a special place in her heart.
She moved to Temple, Texas and worked at Scott and WhiteHospital for several years.
She and her children returned to Chadron in 1990. Valerie worked the rest of her career in gerontology, working at nursing homes in Chadron, Gordon, and Alliance until poor health forced her retirement in 2000. She was very fond and caring of all the elders she looked after in these communities.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Jeremy Karr and wife Amanda of Omaha, Nichole Karr of Chadron, mother Carol Groves of Alliance, brothers Jeff and wife Maura of Medford Oregon and Kenny Groves and wife Mimi of Chadron, grandchildren Emmett and Kaylynn Karr of Omaha, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
