Funeral Services for Walter Herman Jungck, age 91, will be Monday September 27, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rushville with Pastor Sylvia Karlsson and Pastor Loren Kniep officiating.

Burial with military honors was in the Fairview Cemetery in Rushville.

Visitation will be a time of singing and story telling on Sunday, September 26th from 5-7:00 PM at the Chamberlain-Pier Chapel in Gordon.

The family suggests memorials to the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Chadron or the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Rushville.

Walter Herman Jungck was relieved of his chronic crippling pain and entered the comfort of Heaven on Wednesday, September 15, 2010.

Walt was born November 21, 1918, to Charles (Karl Jacob) and Rosina Wilhelmina (Flueckinger) Jungck on the family farm south of Rushville, NE. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith and was an active member of the Luther League in his youth. He attended District 88 and Rushville High School.

On December 31, 1941, Walt entered the Army at Ft. Robinson, NE. He served with the Quartermaster Remount Detachment until his medical discharge July 5, 1943.

Walt farmed the home place, did custom farming, and shared work with neighbors. He especially liked breaking and training both saddle horses and teams. For many years, Walt worked for Adolf Petersen and on the Bill Johnson ranch. Selling Watkins and Raleigh's products provided many opportunities to visit and interact with people. Walt enjoyed dancing, playing cards, haying, fixing fence, coon hunting and driving fast.

Walt married Clara (Abold) Lulow on May 19, 1971, in Rushville. They made their home in Rushville, Hay Springs, Alliance and finally Gordon.

Born with joint malformations, Walt was unable to walk until he was three years old. He had the first of many hip surgeries in 1975. By 1990, Walt was completely disabled and confined to a wheelchair. His physical limitations didn't discourage his active attendance at local auctions. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, and served for a time as unit commander.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents and sibling, Carl, Marie (Jungck) Voss, William, Irwin, Phillip and Alfred.

Wife- Clara of Gordon, NE.

Sister- Margaret Ann and husband Loren Kniep of Ault, CO.

Local Nieces- Barbara (Jungck) Johndreau of Gordon, NE; Ellen (Voss) Kyser of Hay Springs, NE.

Local Nephew- Tom Voss of Rushville, NE.

A host of other nieces and nephews from coast to coast and border to border.

Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
