Memorial services for Twilyn Gaylene Snyder Flaherty will be Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the MethodistChurch in Rushville, NE. Lunch will follow.

Twilyn Gaylene Snyder Flaherty died October 7, 2010 in the North Suburban Emergency room of heart failure. I know, you’re wondering how that could happen to this tough lady that survived chemotherapy and radiation for four different kinds of cancer in five different places on her body. I’m going to say it was choice; she certainly wasn’t going to waste away to cancer.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Christine Helen Flaherty Gallagher and made it clear that she has dibs on the ground beside Christi overlooking Pine Creek.
She leaves behind her soul mate and husband Gerald Flaherty. After leaving home to attend secretarial school in the big city of Rapid City, SD, she met this tall dark handsome man in uniform and dragged him back to Rushville to marry him in the Methodist church.
Of course that changed things and the future brought children; five in total: John, Sherri, Christine, William, and Casey. Officially, that made her a Mom and it turns out she was a natural. Let’s get some of her family details out of the way:
John is married to Mary and they brought her grandchildren Courtney, Cathy, and Anne.
Sherri is married to Mike Boyd. Christi was married to Mike Gallagher and they brought her grandchildren Maegan and Kaitlyn. Mike remarried (Hey, Grandma says it counts!) Michelle and they brought her grandchild Emily. William (okay, Bill) brought grandchildren Melody and Shandi. Maegan brought great-grandchild Maximus.
She also leaves behind two brothers: Gene and Ronnie. Well, Gene married Carol and Ronnie married Jeanie and “POP” came a huge entourage of nieces/nephews/grandnieces/grandnephews that all know she is the one they speak of when they speak the name Auntie Twilyn and Auntie Grandma.
Remember the natural Mom comment? There are many, many people I know that she called her kids. She couldn’t help it. Every friend of her children were just natural extensions of her family and therefore worthy of the nurturing that was built into her soul.
She liked to travel and in 2007 she stepped foot on Hawaii, the last step needed to complete her goal of traveling to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, and the Virgin Islands. She absolutely loved to meet people and could be found smiling anywhere there was a group or card game. When not occupied doing the people person thing, she was often crocheting or working in the rose garden that she loved.
She will be missed.
