10/30/2010 - Richard (Dick) James Tvrs
A celebration of life for Richard “Dick” James Tvrs, age 76, will be Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Hay Springs at 11:00 AM with Pastor Rod Heilbrun officiating.
Inurnment will be at the Hay Springs Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the church.
A memorial has been established for the Hay Springs Boy Scout Troop #208. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary, P.O. Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.
Richard “Dick” James Tvrs died Wednesday October 13, 2010 at Pomerado Hospital in San Diego, California.
Born on the farm of Mr. & Mrs. Wilsie Divan in Hay Springs, Nebraska on November 26, 1933 the first born to Jim & Emma Tvrs. He was raised along with his brother Gary in Hay Springs. Dick graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1951. In June 1955 he joined the US Army and was stationed at Camp Hanford Washington for two years. In 1956 he married Frances Whitney of Hay Springs.
In 1957 he moved his wife and son to San Diego California, where their family continued to grow. They had three children Robert Charles Tvrs, Teresa Kay Tvrs and Jane Emma Tvrs. He was active in his son’s Boy Scout Troop and made many lifelong friends. While in San Diego he was employed by Nelson & Sloan Concrete for many years then went on to partner in a small trucking company with his good friend.
He moved back to Hay Springs on the family farm when he retired and enjoyed many years there. He relocated to San Diego due to health issues in 2003 to be near his daughter Terry and her family. He enjoyed those years in San Diego watching his grandson play baseball and his grand daughter play volleyball. He was very proud of his grandson Lewis Gordon III when he achieved Eagle Scout.
He was preceded in death by his brother Bobby in 1939, his parents, and his granddaughter Beth Ann Gordon in 1996.

Brother- Gary and wife Sue Tvrs of Dalton, NE.
Son- Robert and wife Jan Tvrs of Tioga, TX.
Daughters- Jane and husband Lew Gordon of Virginia Beach, VA; Teresa and husband Dennis James of Escondido, CA.
Grandchildren- Whitney, Nicholas, Lewis, BethAnn, Lacey, and Mischelle.
Great-Grandchild- Zane.
Chamberlain-Drabbels Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
