Funeral services for Margaret Lucille Hoffman, age 91, of Gordon will be Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church with Reverend Tom Cobb and Reverend Kevin Burkhardt officiating.

 

Burial will be in the Gordon Cemetery.

    

Pallbearers will be Ron Dorsey, Dave Hatch, Matt Talbot, Ron Hoffman, Jack Harris, Tom Hupp, Jim Rucker, Gary Fuscher and Todd Rager.

 

A memorial has been established for the Gordon Rescue Unit. Donations may be sent to: Chamberlain-Pier Funeral Home, P.O. Box 366, Gordon, NE 69343.

 

Margaret Lucille Hoffman died Sunday, November 28, 2010, at Gordon Countryside Care.

     

She was born June 14, 1919 in the log home on the family farm northwest of Rushville, NE, to Otto Herman and Minnie Blanch Barth. As a young girl she lived with her family on the dairy farm. She and her sister helped their mother wash the milk bottles and Margaret would go with her father on the milk route from time to time. They delivered milk to residents in Rushville by means of a team of horses hitched up to the milk wagon. She told of the thrill of stopping in at her grandparents home to warm up on cold winter days and what a treat it was to have fresh fruit for a snack.

     

Margaret graduated from high school in 1937 from the Rushville high school. She worked for Dr. Robert Hook in his clinic after graduation. On February 16, 1941 she married Guy A. Talbot in Rushville. Together they had one son, Jerry Bruce Talbot, who was born September 9, 1942. Guy entered the Armed Forces on February 22, 1941 at Ft. Meade, South Dakota. He was in Camp Gray, California and Camp Gordon, Georgia before he was sent overseas on June 10, 1944. He was killed in action in France on August 17, 1944. Margaret and her son lived with her parents until she married Ervin W. Hoffman, July 13, 1946. He also served in World War II in the Phillipines, New Guinea and Australia. He served in the Military Police. Together Ervin and Margaret had a daughter, Karen (Hoffman) Cobb and one son Wesley Otto Hoffman. Wesley died in infancy at the age of one day.

     

Margaret worked at the City Bakery, Stockmen's Drug and Morey's Jewelry during her lifetime. She enjoyed bowling and served on a league for a number of years. In her later years she kept score for the leagues. She was so excited when Todd Rager bowled a perfect game and she was the scorekeeper. She enjoyed wildlife and a beautiful sunset. She was particularly attached to cats. She was a good cook and loved to entertain her children and grandchildren with a good home cooked meal. She loved a ride in the country and knew where everyone lived from Gordon to Rusvhille. One hobby was to learn everyone's license plate number so when she met a car on the highway she knew who it was.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents Otto Herman Barth and Minne Blanch (Higgins) Barth, sister Marion Sloyer, husband Guy A. Talbot, husband Ervin W. Hoffman and infant son, Wesley Otto.

Son- Jerry and wife Gayle Talbot.

 

Daughter- Karen and husband Tom Cobb.

Grandchildren-Melissa (Talbot) Yuen of Henderson, CO; Matt Talbot of Idaho Falls, ID; Kiley (Cobb) Skor of Sacramento, CA; Laura (Cobb) Hurd of Gordon, NE; Camilla (Cobb) Lee of Alva, OK.

Great Grandchildren- Kaitlyn Yuen, Logan Yuen, Jessica Hurd, Rylan Hurd, Allaina Hurd, Courtney Hurd, Brendon Skor and Ian Skor.
