Funeral services for Edward Herman Wittig, age 72, of Hay Springs will be Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hay Springs with Pastor Michael Wittrock officiating.
Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Rushville.
Visitation will be Friday, March 18, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the church.
A memorial has been established for the Hay Springs Fire and Rescue Department or the Zion Lutheran Church. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary, PO Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.

Edward Herman Wittig, of Hay Springs, died Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in Chadron, Nebraska at the age of 72.
Ed was born December 25, 1938 in Rushville, Nebraska to Margaret and Herman Wittig. He was baptized on January 29, 1939 and confirmed September 7, 1952 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church southwest of Rushville. He attended elementary school in District 35 and graduated from Gordon High School in 1956. He attended Dana College until 1958 when he returned home to the family farm near Hay Springs. He entered the Army in 1961 and returned to the farm in 1964. Ed continued to farm the family farm for the rest of his life.
Ed married the love of his life, Lucille Weyerts, on November 28, 1964 and from this union came two children, Mark and Charlotte. After twelve wonderful years, Lucille passed away. In 1982, he married Dorothy Delinger and added four more children; Shawn Marie, Benton, Heather, and Ian to the family. In addition to the farming, Ed was always active in his church and enjoyed his Wednesdays working at the sale barn.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy and children; Mark (Phyllis) Wittig of Quartz Hill, California; Charlotte (Bart) Stratton of Glendale, California; Shawn Marie Delinger of Chadron, Nebraska; Benton (Margaret) Delinger of Ridgefield, Connecticut; Heather (Chris) Saulnier of Oakland, California, and Ian Delinger of Warrington, UK; his brother Philip (Karen) Wittig of Lincoln, Nebraska; and brother-in-law, Bob Bernhardt. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lucas and Kelsey Wittig; Sophia and Ezekiel Stratton; Hazel Sims; Ross and Grace Delinger; and Margaret Saulnier. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Margaret, and sister Irene Bernhardt.
