03/31/2011 - Evelyn Rasmussen

Funeral services for Evelyn Rasmussen, age 95, will be Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Chadron at 10:00 AM with Father Todd Sermon officiating.
 
Burial will be at GreenwoodCemetery.
 
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 7:00 PM at Chamberlain Chapel.
 
A memorial has been established. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Evelyn Rasmussen died Thursday March 24, 2011, at the age of 95. She was the youngest of seven children born to Emmett and Emma Hale. She was born April 5, 1915 in Tilden, Nebraska. Her family moved to Marsland, Nebraska and then to Crawford before she was 5 years old. She attended the CornValleySchool and then graduated from CrawfordHigh School.
 
In 1934 she married Alden Rasmussen. The two raised hay and cattle near Whitney, Nebraska. In 1945 they moved to Chadron where, among other things they boarded several boys. She took a job with the J.C. Penny Store and remained a valuable employee for 32 years. Evelyn was also very active in the Daughters of the American Revolution organization, having served as the treasurer for 20 years. She also served as the president of the DOEs organization. Evelyn was also a member of the Eastern Star, serving in all of the offices. She also carried out an active role in the Episcopal Church.
 
Evelyn had two children, Marlene and John. Evelyn is survived by Marlene’s children; Tom and Kristin Blundell of West River, MD (Marley and Mackenzie); and Tracey and Bernie Tonning of Denver, CO. John and Patricia Rasmussen (Ravenna, NE) have four children. Dana Rasmussen, Omaha, NE; Dr. Andrea and Derrick VerMaas (Kayden and Aspen) Blair, NE; Michael Rasmussen, Omaha, NE; and Sara Rasmussen, Omaha, NE. Evelyn was preceded in death by Alden and Marlene in 1982.
 
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
