Funeral Services for Zona (Wilcox) Brown “Wanbli Cante Wi”, age 83, of Pine Ridge, SD will be Thursday, April 21, 2011 10:00 AM at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD with Reverend Craig West officiating.
A one night wake service starting at 2:00 PM at the Billy Mills Hall in Pine Ridge, SD on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
Burial will be Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
Zona (Wilcox) Brown, 83 journeyed to the Spirit World on April 13, 2011. Zona was born on September 14, 1927 in Wanamaker, SD to Fred & Anna (Quiver) Wilcox. She grew up in the country 7 miles east of Wanblee. She attended Pine Ridge School in her early years. She met the love of her life, Garfield Brown in the early 1940’s and were married in Philip, SD in 1946. Garfield & Zona raised 11 children, numerous nephews, nieces, & grandchildren together. They moved to Pine Ridge in 1961. She was employed at the fish hook factory and the moccasin factory during these years.
Zona was a very loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, playing bingo, and going to the casino.
Zona was preceded in death by her parents, husband Garfield T. Brown, Sr.; three sons, Elgin D. Brown, Sr., Lester W. Brown, Sr., and Garfield T. Brown, Jr.; two grandsons, Orien Two Bulls and Steven Brown, one granddaughter, Alicia L. Provost; three sisters, Geneva Gonzales, Ollie Smith, and Irma Kukuk; and three brothers, Leo Wilcox, William Wilcox, and Albert Wilcox.
Immediate Survivors:
Sister: Florence Dillon of Denver, CO.
Sons: Fred Brown, Sr. (Jean Ghost), Harold Brown (Sally Goings), and Richard Brown all of Pine Ridge, SD.
Daughters: Roselyn Swan of Rapid City, SD, Dorothy (Francis) Two Bulls, Bonnie Brown, and Serena Brown (Irving Provost) all of Pine Ridge, SD; Doreen Two Bulls (Orren Provost) of Porcupine, SD.
Grandchildren: 45
Great-Grandchildren: 82
Great-Great Grandchildren: 17
