Memorial Services for Verna Alice Tuma, age 84, of Chadron will be Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the ImmanuelLutheranChurch in Chadron with Pastor Ann Sundberg officiating.
Inurnment will be at GreenwoodCemetery.
A memorial has been established for the American Legion Auxiliary, the ImmanuelLutheranChurch in Chadron, or the MariaLutheranChurch in Hershey Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Verna Alice Tuma of Chadron, Nebraska died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Pioneer Manor in Hay Springs, Nebraska.
Verna was born December 12, 1926 in Elgin, Nebraska to Ross and Martha Ofe. She was raised on a farm south of Chadron and graduated from ChadronPrep School in 1945.
On October 19, 1946 she married Harold E. Tuma. The couple lived in Chadron their entire lives. They took ownership of the Chadron Hatchery in the early 1950’s and Verna operated it until the mid 1960’s. She then went to work for Gambel’s Hardware Store. She continued to raise chickens until she moved to Prairie Pines in 2009.
She was a member of the EmmanuelLutheranChurch, the American Legion Auxiliary, and of the Elks order of the Does. She enjoyed baking, helping others, and her chickens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harold. Two granddaughters Amanda Jo Likes and Kimberly Dawn Moorhead. Her Brother Harold Ofe, her Sister Lucille Preble and husband Wyman, Sister Nina Patterson and Brother-in-law Ralph Grant.

Children: Bill Tuma of Gordon, NE; Tom Tuma of Stillwater, MN; Linda Likes Traylor of Leon, KS; Janet Moorhead Schneider of Hershey, NE. Sisters: Janelle Grant of Chadron, NE; Francis Connell of Crawford, NE.
Sister-in-law: Aubyn Ofe of Hay Springs, NE.
Brother-in-law: Windy Connell of Whitney, NE.
Brother & Sister-in-Law: Charles and Jolene Tuma of Twin Falls, ID.
Grandchildren: 10
Great-Grandchildren: 17 Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
