Memorial services for Melvin “Buzz” L. Cummings, age 74 of Martin, SD will be Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Martin, SD with Father Bryan Sorensen will be officiating.
Melvin passed away on April 10, 2011 at a local nursing home in Rapid City, SD.
Melvin “Buzz” Lawrence Cummings was born July 4, 1936 in Pine Ridge, SD to Frank M. and Mary Bell Buck Wallace. Melvin went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2011 while living at the Golden Living Center Meadow Brook Nursing Home in Rapid City, SD.
Melvin spent his childhood in the Martin area and attended school in Martin, SD. Melvin enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 18 on October 28, 1954 and served as a parachute rigger and was stationed in Salina, CA. During Melvin’s time in the Air Force, he served time in Libya and North Africa. Melvin was discharged from the Air Force on October 28, 1958.
Melvin married Wilma Seaton on July 29, 1959 in Ekter, CA and to this union one son was born, Frank. On November 1, 1963, Melvin married Sheila Goetz in Walworth County, SD and to this union one daughter was born, Starla Ann. Melvin later married Jean Cline of Martin sometime in the 1980’s. Melvin resided in Nebraska, Wyoming, and in South Dakota and in his last years he lived in Rapid City, SD.
Melvin was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother, Clarence (Swede); and sisters, Margaret Frost and Lynna Hicks.

Son: Frank Cummings of Paragold, AK.
Daughter: Starla Ann of SD.
Brother: Edward (Dane) Cummings of Mahnomen, MN.
Sister: Elsie Bostock of Gordon, NE.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD is in charge of arrangements.
