Edward (Ed) Voss passed away on May 9th, 2011 at the Chadron Community Hospital in Chadron, NE.
Ed was born to Gus and Carrie Voss of Las Vegas, New Mexico on May 25th of 1927. Ed remained in Las Vegas with his parents, sister, and four brothers until enlisting in the Army on July 26th of 1945. Ed spent much of his Army career stationed in Japan, and was discharged from his duties on February 28th of 1947.
Once back on United States soil, Ed met and married the love of his life, Kathleen Brown. Ed and Kathy were married on April 7th of 1949. Ed and Kathy embarked on many adventures together during their 62 years of marriage, including raising their two children, Linda and Les Voss. Ed and Kathy spent many hours doing things they enjoyed together including rodeos, camping, fishing, dancing, and playing cards. The couple also moved several times during the course of their marriage including places such as Larkspur, CO, Lipscomb, TX, Corvalous, MT, Bill, WY, and Chadron, NE. The couple truly enjoyed their life together, and touched the lives of others wherever they were.
Ed and Kathy made their final home together in Hay Springs, NE where they have lived since 1989. Ed was a member of the American Legion, and the couple belonged to and attended service regularly at Zion Lutheran Church in Hay Springs.
Ed proceeded in death by his parents, Carrie and Gus Voss; his sister, Edna; and his brothers, Gus, Harry, and Rueben. He is survived in death by his true love and wife, Kathleen Voss; his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Mike Feddersen of Hay Springs; his son Les of Wessington, SD; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; his brother Harry of Pueblo, CO; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church of Hay Springs on Friday, May 13th at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Michael Whittrock will be conducting the services, with a burial to follow at the Hay Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Ed's grandchildren, Brandon Voss, Skipper Voss, Casey Voss, and Courtney Feddersen as well as grandchildren of the heart, Todd Robinson, Brian Grimes and Brad Beguin. Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Peck, Jim Varvel, Bud Voss, Warren Scherbarth, and Martin Raymer.
Memorials have been established by the family for the Hay Springs Rescue Service, as well as for Zion Lutheran Church. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary, PO Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.
