Graveside services for LaVerne Morey will be on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery in Chadron with Dr. Russ Seger officiating with military honors by the Chadron Veterans Honor Guard.
LaVerne E. Morey was born on April 1, 1921, in Andrews, NE. He was raised in Andrews and Chadron. LaVerne was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He was deployed to the Pacific Theatre during this time period, and was a VFW member. LaVerne attended school in Chicago, where he studied to become an electrician. He worked for Darlington Electric in Chadron for several years, and was then employed by C & NW Railroad. He worked as an electrician for the railroad for over 20 years until retiring in 1987.
He was a firearms enthusiast, lifetime member of the NRA and sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team for many years. He was a generous and trusted family member who enjoyed traveling, especially with his brother and sister-in-law. His easygoing nature and signature greeting of "Aloha," will be missed by all who knew him. LaVerne was blessed to live independently until his 86th year of life. He passed away on June 10, 2011 at Crestview Care Center with family by his side.
LaVerne was preceded in death by his father, Philo Morey, mother, Rilla Allen, sister Hattie Mae Fisher, brother and sister-in-law, Wes and Adeline Morey, and step-nephew, David Fisher.
LaVerne's philanthropy focused on organizations providing assistance to children with medical needs; therefore, a memorial fund in his name has been established at Bank of the West, 210 West 3rd Street, Chadron, to benefit Smile Train. Smile Train provides international medical care to children born with cleft palates.

Nieces: Linda McGary of Sparks, NV; Brenda Fisher of Lincoln, NE.
Nephew: Rolland Morey and his wife Pat of Idaho Falls, ID.
As well as other extended family members and friends.
Bates-Gould Funeral Home of Alliance is in charge of arrangements.
