Don passed away on July 12, 2011 at Chadron Community Hospital with his beloved family by his side.
Don was born August 21, 1935 in Alliance, Nebraska, one of five children born to Lester and Irene Dunn. Raised on a ranch twelve miles NW of Harrison, he graduated from SCHS in 1953 as salutatorian of his class as well as achieving State Farmer and American Farmer in FFA. He ranched with his father until he married the love of his life, Margaret Ann Hourt on September 26, 1955. To this union, four children were born – Kenny, Peggy, Sandy, and Skip. While working various construction jobs, they moved seventeen times in the first six years, moving back to Harrison in September 1961 so Kenny could begin school. They purchased the Harrison Standard Gas Station in 1974 and ran the business until 1980. Don worked for Sioux County until 1990, and then at Fort Robinson State Park and the Mitchell Sugar Factory. He was a volunteer fireman for over twenty years, served on the Harrison town board for over twelve years, and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. He had a great sense of humor and loved making people laugh.
