07/21/2011 - Rita Normalee Gaspers Westover

Memorial services for Rita Normalee Gaspers Westover, age 85, will be Thursday, July 21 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Nativity in Harrison, NE.
 
Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery at Harrison.
 
The family will designate a future memorial.  Memorials may be sent in care of Barbara Kunce, 25 South Platte, Fremont, NE  68025.

Mrs. Westover, 85, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Good Samaritan Health Care Center in Alliance.
 
She was born April 11, 1926 at Crawford, NE to Clarence and Ellen (Jordan) Lacy.  Her family lived in Harrison and she graduated from Harrison High School in 1943.  She then attended Chadron State College.  In May of 1945 she married Edward J. Gaspers.  They lived on the Gasper’s family farm near Rushville until 1962 when they moved into Rushville. 
 
She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Chadron State College.  She taught rural school in Sheridan County for 1 year and then taught in Rushville for 2 years before beginning her career as a teacher on the Pine Ridge Reservation at the Shannon County/Wolf Creek School.  During those years she lived on the reservation from 1974 to 1981 and then moved into Chadron while she continued teaching on the reservation until her retirement.  In June 1987 she married Paul Westover and then moved to Brush, CO.  Following his death she and her mother lived in Hot Springs, SD until moving to Alliance in 2001.  She was a life long member of the Catholic Church and belonged to those parishes in the towns that she lived in.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her daughter, Connie Mueller, and her grandson, Michael Mueller.

Children: Nicke (Jan) Gaspers of Maylene, AL; Martin Gaspers of Deadwood, SD, Doug (Sandy) Gaspers of Clovis, NM, Greg (Marie) Gaspers of Cody, WY, Steve (Lou) Gaspers of Gillette, WY, Barbara (Dan) Kunce of Fremont, NE and Chris (Brenda) Gaspers of Torrington, WY.
 
Son-In-Law: Leigh Mueller of O’Neill, NE.
 
Grandchildren: 25
Great-Grandchildren: 17
 
Bates-Gould Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
