A Celebration of Life for Sharilee Counce, age 46, of Chadron, Nebraska will be on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Chadron Community Art Center and Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 3:00 PM in Wray, Colorado at the WRAC.
A memorial has been established for the Shari Counce Forest Service Restoration Project. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Sharilee Counce passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Chadron Hospital. Shari was born on Christmas Day, 1964 in Wray, Colorado to Harold and Charlene Counce.
Shari came into this world physically and emotionally strong. Her love for nature and the outdoors started when she was young, where she frequently explored the large pasture with her beloved black lab Duke, at her home, one mile east of Wray.
Shari was a very well rounded individual, who not only excelled in academics (with the exception of Home EC class), band, and all other extra curricular activities, but also was a force to be feared in any sport she participated in. Her favorite was basketball. Although she only 5’8”, she played like she was 6 foot 3 and always managed to put the ball in the basket with no fewer than 3 defenders hanging off her arm. Shari was very strong! When the Wray boy’s team practiced against the girl’s team, none of the boys wanted to guard Shari. Straws were often drawn and loser usually came out with a few extra bruises.
Shari attended CSU in Fort Collins and had no idea where she wanted to focus her academics. She was not interested in working in corporate America and making lots of money but instead wanted to be outside in nature. Her Dad helped guide her towards her true love archeology. She went on to receive her Masters degree at SMU in Dallas, Texas, and, nearly completed her PhD before she needed to return to Wray to help with the family business. She then moved to Chardon, NE, which became her home and where she developed many deep friendships. Although she needed to move away due to different jobs, she always managed to come back home to Chadron.
Shari’s greatest joy was her 9-year-old son, Thomas Elias. Eli was born in Scotts Bluff, NE, on May 22, 2002, surrounded by 4 of Shari’s dear friends. Anyone who knew Eli and Shari would say they had an enviable, loving, adventuresome, respectful, mother-son relationship. Shari learned as much from Eli as Eli learned from Shari. They loved to explore and learn about nature together. Travel was always an adventure and they amerced themselves in the culture, regardless of where they visited. Shari often talked about their recent trip to Costa Rica, remembering the monkeys, body surfing in the ocean, zip lining through the forest, and getting to know the local town’s people who became fast acquaintances. This was a trip of a lifetime and a gift to both Shari and Eli.
Shari will always remembered by her colleagues as a dedicated professional, by her friends as a nurturing fun loving, giving person, by her family, as the glue that held everyone together and kept everything on task, by her son as “”my mom sunshine”.
Her Father, Harold Counce, precedes her in death by her sister, Debbie McGee, and by all grandparents.

Sisters: Brenda Berning, Cindy and Bob Fiedler.
Brother-In-Law: Mark Berning.
Nephews: Dakota McGee, Casey and Laura Berning, Kendra and Payton Berning, and Travis, Alicia, Jonathan and Jayde Fielder.
