Funeral services for Evelyn E. Stover, age 88, of Kyle, SD will be on Tuesday August 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, followed by a graveside traditional prayer by Ron Black Bird and Mike Cross with Father Rick Abert, S.J. officiating.
Viewing will be Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the State Veterans Home Auditorium - Bldg #3- 1st floor in Hot Springs, SD.
A two night wake will begin at 7:00 PM on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Hall in Kyle, SD.
Burial will be at the StoverFamilyCemetery in Kyle, SD with Military Honors.
Evelyn E. Stover, 88, Kyle-Hot Springs, made her journey to the spirit world on July 27, 2011 at Rapid CityRegionalHospital.
Evelyn Hungry was born January 2, 1923 at White RiverS.D. She graduated from ChadronHigh School, Chadron, NE in 1942 then worked for Montgomery Wards in Denver, CO before joining the military. Evelyn enlisted in the Armed Forces and served with the Army Medical Corps on October 5, 1944. She served in World War II as a Tec 4 Surgical Technician. Evelyn was honorably discharged in January of 1948.
On October 2, 1949 Evelyn and Oliver “Ben” Stover were united in marriage at Holy Rosary Mission on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
Immediate Survivors:
Survivors include, eight children and two takoja’s that she and Ben raised. Mary (Ron) Black Bird, Virginia (Terrance) Veo of Eagle Butte; Bill (Ivy) Stover of Batesland; Russell Stover and Becky Red Bow of Rapid City; Bernadette Stover, Nicole (Doug) Shaw of Hot Springs; James “Tim” Stover, Donna Stover and Kathy Stover all of Kyle, South Dakota. Evelyn has 29 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Oliver “Ben” Stover, two granddaughters, four grandsons.
Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge is in charge of arrangements.
