08/01/2011 - Robert (Bob) Fred Oatman
Robert “Bob” Fred Oatman, age 88, of Chadron passed away peacefully at his home July 28, 2011.
A Celebration of his life will be held on Monday, August 1, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Dr. Russ Seger officiating.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
A Rodeo Memorial Fund has been established in Bob’s name. Donations may be sent to the First National Bank of North Platte, PO Box 511, Chadron, NE 69337.

Bob was born July 23, 1923 to LeRoy LaSal Oatman and Elsie Marie (Ralston) Oatman at Ainsworth. After high school, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Army. During WWII, Bob served on the front line in France and Germany and was proud to have been involved in the Normandy Invasion to personally help end the war.
Upon returning to the states, Bob married Alberta Fletcher on May 27, 1947 in Ainsworth, Nebraska. He spent the rest of his life dedicated to cattle ranching and being a steward of the land in the Sand hills and the Nebraska panhandle. Bob’s marriage was blessed with two daughters, Roberta “Bert” (Dick) Lesher of Chadron and Connie Huckfeldt of Chadron. Later in life, one of Bob’s true enjoyments were his great grandchildren, so in March of 2007, Bob and Alberta moved to Chadron to be close to family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dale Oatman and brother-in-law Reece Bliegh.
Bob was a devoted husband, loving dad, wonderful grandpa, and a true cowboy. Condolences may be sent to 801 Maple Street, Chadron, NE 69337.

Grandchildren: Wade Lesher of Half Moon Bay, CA; Lane Lesher of Chadron, NE; Jami Huckfeldt & (Tish Hier) of Mitchell, Joni (Steve) Behrends of Chadron, NE; Jodi (Andy) Hendrickson of Chadron, NE.
Great Grandchildren: Kyler, Jacksyn, and Beau Behrends and Trey and Cali Hendrickson.
Brother & Sisters: Vernon (Velma) Oatman of Broken Bow, NE; Marjorie Bliegh of Wessington Springs, SD; Iloe (Less) Arent of Marshfield, WI.
Sister-In-Law: Delmira Oatman of Omaha, NE.
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
