Memorial services for Ronald J. Dexter, age 70, of Chadron, Nebraska will be Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron with Dr. Russ Seger officiating.
Burial will be at the Hay Springs Cemetery in Hay Springs, Nebraska.

Ronald James Dexter, 70, Chadron, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011, at the Ft. Meade Medical Center near Sturgis, SD. He was born on September 2, 1940, in Rushville, NE to Kenneth Dexter and Wilma Gilliam Dexter. Ron grew up in Hay Springs, NE spending his summers with his Gilliam grandparents working on the farm. He served in the US Army as a radio operator for two years. He was awarded the National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign and Purple Heart Medals for his service and was honorably discharged in 1968. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 239, Hay Springs, NE.
November 12, 1969, he married Janel Chasek, they had two children and were together for 35 years. When the kids were growing up, most weekends were spent at the family’s trailer at Angostura Lake. Countless memories were made with family and friends during those weekends. Ron was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as sports fan, particularly rodeo. Every year the family had a fish fry the evening of July 3rd and then went to Crawford for the Fourth of July festivities and rodeo. He looked forward to marching in the color guard at local parades during the summer and taught his children great respect for the American flag and what it represents. April 30, 2005, Ron retired after over 30 years as a meter reader with Nebraska Public Power District.

Daughter: Joy Dexter of Chadron, NE.
Son: John and wife Tabetha Dexter of Alliance, NE.
Grandchildren: Tyler Smith, Logan Dexter, Jozlin Dexter.
Brothers: Kenneth and wife Rita Dexter of Fort Worth, TX; Larry and wife Brenda Dexter of Chadron, NE.
Nieces & Nephews: 11
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements.
