Memorial services for Doris C. Ogden, age 88, of Crawford, Nebraska will be Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Crawford with Reverend George Kilmer and Pastor Bill Bagley officiating.
Inurnment will be at the Crawford Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for the Chadron Hospice, the Crawford Senior Center, or the Crawford Clipper. Donations may be sent to Chamberlain Chapel, PO Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.

Doris Caroline Beverage Ogden, 88, left this earthly planet on August 5, 2011. She is now in the presence of her heavenly father. Her family and those left behind are rejoicing and celebrating her life knowing she is at peace and smiling down upon us all. What a special person she was, living among us. How fortunate we were to know and to love her. She never forgot birthdays and loved to bake brownies, just to give them away. She had lots of children because everyone called her “Mom.”
Doris grew up on rural Crawford, Nebraska on the home place where she attended country school at District # 1 through the eighth grade. Often time, she would hang on to Sister Lula, though sleet and snow for the mile walk unless their Dad took them in the wagon.
The girls and their mother, moved to town to attend high school. Then they would go to the farm on the weekends. She reminisced to her children, the good and simple pleasures of growing up in the country gathering eggs, doing chores, playing ping pong and attending country dances.
After graduation in 1939, she married Lewis C. Ogden on April 30, 1940. She and Lewis had five children who were the love of her life and her foundation. Her children were her pride and likewise she was the most important teacher of love and compassion they ever head. She always said, “You kids do too much.” In reality, they knew they could never return all she did for them.
Doris first found employment cleaning other’s homes. She then worked for eleven years at the Ponderosa Settlement. Doris went to Belmont as a teacher’s aide, worked at the Cow Poke, and finally as many of you will remember, she was the author of Faces and Places in the Crawford Clipper.

Children: Dennis (Donna) Ogden of Arcadia, CA; Terry (Sally) Ogden of Watkins, CO; Peggy (Earl) Adam of Odell, NE; Sherry (Wade) Ogden/Wilkins of Hot Springs, SD. S
Grandchildren: Dennis Ogden II, Julie Briggs, Deanna Coughlin, and Steven Indergand all of California, T.J. Ogden of Colorado, Katie Ogden of Nevada, Todd Schwarz of Texas, Terra Asselin of Michigan, Farrah Matthews of South Carolina, Lacey Williams of Nebraska, Brian Adam of Nebraska, and Lindsay Adam of Nebraska. She also has eight great-great grandchildren, Bryson, Caleb, Brady, Lilly, Sam, William, Cole, and Dorian.
Chamberlain Chapel of Crawford is in charge of arrangements.
